Inauguration of Palma’s Palau de Congressos

The King and Queen of Spain inaugurated Palma’s new convention centre, the Palau de Congressos, on 25 September in a ceremony attended by a wide range of representatives of the Balearic society and the main local authorities. Before the opening ceremony that was attended by approximately one thousand people, the monarchs walked through the facilities of the new convention centre accompanied by authorities, architect Patxi Mangado and the CEO of Melia International, Gabriel Escarrer. Under the title The Show That Never Ends, all attending the event enjoyed a show that underscored the important role of tourism in shaping the present and future reality of the Balearic Islands. In his speech, King Felipe of Spain emphasised the fact that the new Palau de Congressos would have “a major impact on the life and progress of the city as a new competitive destination for business and tourism” and therefore will definitely meet the demands of the business segment in a competitive market.
