First year of the new Palau de Congressos

The Palau de Congressos de Palma, a convention centre managed by Meliá Hotels International, presented the results of its first year in operation, which confirm the success of both the infrastructure and its management model.
With more than 170 events and 30,000 attending participants in 2017, this infrastructure contributed significantly to local business on the island during the low season for tourism. According to Gabriel Escarrer, the CEO of Meliá, “the activity of the complex has brought about an increase of more than €9 million in value for our stakeholders (suppliers, employees, the public administrations and the management company), and the turnover has far exceeded our expectations, confirming the suitability of our strategic move to make the Palau a profitable infrastructure for our entire community”.
He also noted the push for collaboration among public and private institutions to build a shared destination proposal that would help to attract MICE business and convert the island into a European benchmark for this segment.
