3rd Safe Schools Conference

The 3rd International Safe Schools Conference was recently held in May at Palma’s newest convention centre, the Palau de Congressos, marking the first celebration of this event in Spain. Backed by the United Nations, this initiative aims to protect students, teachers and educational institutions during times of armed conflict.

This conference enjoyed a turnout of more than 275 people and featured the attendance of the Queen of Spain, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Balearic Islands Government, high officers of the United Nations and numerous international experts. “This forum has brought to international debate one of the most important issues of all for a company like ours within the tourism sector: the protection of children. What’s more, it has done so for the first time in Spain and here at home in Mallorca, giving us the opportunity to show the world that Palma is a top-notch international tourism destination that we can feel proud of”, stated Gabriel Escarrer, the Vice President of Meliá Hotels International.
