The „Poets“ Walk

At Belmond La Residencia culture does not stop at art collections and exhibitions but extends to music and poetry. This year the property inaugurates a most unusual path they have named the ‘Poets’ Walk’.
The flat route is located on a hillside offering panoramic views to the Tramuntana mountains in one direction and the Mediterranean sea in another, juxtaposed by the pretty village of Deià. Six thick, circular granite columns line the pathway and on each one there is carved the profile of a poet of international renown. Robert Graves, the illustrious son of Deià who put the village on the cultural map for so many, is naturally present, along with Federico García Lorca, Pablo Neruda, Fernando Pessoa and Miquel Costa i Llobera. Alongside each column is a bench that in itself is a work of art with a specially designed backrest linked to the poet in question. A précis of each poet’s life and work is placed by each column and visitors can sit and read poetry in a stunningly beautiful and inspiiring location.Located high on the hillside with views towards the mountains, village and sea the scenery is definitely inspirational.
